lyrics
Shadows dance through flame-lit trees
The air is thick with smoke and mist
A pallid moon hangs high above
There is a presence in our midst
Lost flock of forgotten ones
Has arisen again
To eulogize a dying world
The absolution
Of sin!
The truth of Death has been revealed
And wrought upon the land
We gather here for sacred rites
Around the altar we stand
Faceless and without name
Stand the many as one
To set in motion the end of days
To see the world
Undone!
A crimson circle surrounding the offering
Red as blood we stand
A sacrifice to satiate the burning ones
We are more animal than man
Flesh is offered, and flesh consumed
Communion is complete
The wooded hills fill with laughter
As the spirits feast
In ecstasy the rite achieved
The Red Sect succeeds
Arise now, burning sons
And make the world
Bleed!
A crimson circle surrounding the offering
Red as blood we stand
A sacrifice to satiate the burning ones
We are more animal than man
Their ember eyes smolder in my soul
Do you remember?
Remember. . .
Pretty much the best Black/Speed Metal I've listened to since I learned about Evil Invaders and Vulture. Everything you'd love to be reminded of about this musical era is there. The influences are what you'd expect too: Motörhead, Venom, Bathory, early Slayer, Celtic Frost; aggressive vocals, tortured guitar solos, pounding drums; everything is fast, clear and still a little grimy, but without reverb cranked up to the max. Amazing band, amazing album. Odiumediae
Distilled death metal with catchy riffs and well written songs. It's not reinventing the wheel or anything but it's osdm, if that's what you want look elsewhere. grahamy
The perfect blend of naive enthusiasm and unfiltered rock 'n' roll danger, leading to an explosive, raw sound. Volcanic, pure, and crushing. Bandcamp New & Notable May 30, 2017
So I can't leave a long enough review to say everything I want. But I will say this, I love this EP. It's a great little follow up to times, and has just enough of a dynamic shift in sound to prove that Smoulder isn't a one trick pony with their first album's formula. This one really plays up the 70s prog aspects (DUST and Manilla Road influences definitely shine through even harder here). It's still Smoulder, don't get me wrong. Just a different side in some ways, all of which are good. playfulpooka
